A bust of Lenin still stands at the point in Antarctica farthest from any coast

In 1958, a Soviet expedition reached the spot in Antarctica furthest from any ocean and built a small station there, topped with a bust of Lenin facing towards Moscow. The station was abandoned within weeks, and decades of snowfall have since buried everything except Lenin's head, which still pokes above the ice. The average temperature there is about -58°C, among the coldest on Earth.
