A parasite turns a snail's eyestalks into pulsing, bird-attracting bait

Leucochloridium paradoxum infects land snails and migrates into their eyestalks, swelling them into pulsating, striped sacs that mimic caterpillars. It also manipulates the snail into crawling toward bright, exposed light instead of hiding, making it far more likely a bird will spot and eat the fake caterpillar — completing the parasite's life cycle inside the bird.
