This blind cave salamander can go a decade without eating

The olm lives entirely in the dark water of European caves, where meals are rare, so it has evolved to barely need them. Controlled starvation experiments found it can survive up to ten years without food by slashing its metabolism and activity to almost nothing and slowly burning through fat and liver glycogen reserves. Some individuals in the wild have been tracked staying in the same few metres of cave for years at a time.
