A bird that hides up to 98,000 seeds a year and still finds them

Clark's nutcrackers scatter-hoard pine seeds across dozens of square miles each autumn — one bird was recorded caching up to 98,000 seeds in a single season. Long after snow buries every landmark, they relocate thousands of these caches from memory alone, recovering seeds hidden 9 months earlier almost as accurately as ones hidden days before.
