Two African nations share the shortest international border on Earth

Botswana and Zambia meet at a point on the Zambezi River where their territories touch for roughly 150 metres — a border so short it was disputed for years, with Zimbabwe and Namibia both claiming there was no direct Botswana-Zambia boundary at all. A bridge across the Zambezi, completed in 2021, now physically connects the two countries at that sliver of shared land. It settled a geographic argument that had run since colonial-era map-drawing.
