This deep-sea creature defends itself with glowing mucus, not ink
The vampire squid — actually neither a vampire nor a true squid — lives in the ocean's oxygen-poor 'midnight zone.' Instead of an ink cloud, it defends itself by ejecting a cloud of sticky, bioluminescent mucus that can glow for several minutes, confusing predators long enough to escape.
