The world's loneliest tree was the only one for 400 kilometres
A single acacia stood alone in Niger's Tenere region of the Sahara, so famous as a desert landmark it was marked on maps at a scale of 1:4,000,000. It survived roughly 300 years of total isolation, then in 1973 an allegedly drunk truck driver knocked it down anyway. Its remains now sit in Niger's national museum.
