Shown pairs of 3D block shapes and asked if they were the same object just turned, or mirror images, people's reaction time rose in a straight line with the angle of rotation between them. That meant subjects weren't just comparing static images — they were mentally spinning one shape to check it against the other, and the spinning had a measurable speed.
