Some people have no mind's eye at all

Ask most people to picture an apple and they see one. People with aphantasia report nothing — no image forms when they try to visualize. Neurologist Adam Zeman named the condition in 2015 after a patient lost his ability to visualize following heart surgery, and surveys suggest it affects roughly 1 in 50 people who simply never noticed anything was different.
