The largest single piece of floating ice on Earth is bigger than France

The Ross Ice Shelf covers roughly 500,000 square kilometres of the Antarctic coast, a slab of floating glacial ice up to hundreds of metres thick with a near-vertical seaward cliff over 600 kilometres long. Around 90% of it sits below the waterline, and it was first charted in 1841 by the explorer it's named after, James Clark Ross.
