The Pacific 'Ring of Fire' produces about 90% of the world's earthquakes
This roughly 40,000 km horseshoe of faults and volcanoes traces the edges of the Pacific Plate, running from New Zealand through Asia, across to Alaska, and down the Americas. It holds about 75% of Earth's active and dormant volcanoes, and its fault lines generate close to 90% of the world's earthquakes, including nearly every one of the largest ever recorded.
