A 2-billion-year-old tabletop mountain inspired 'The Lost World'
Mount Roraima is a tepui, a flat-topped plateau with sheer cliffs nearly 400 metres tall, rising where Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana meet. Cut off from the savanna below for millions of years, its summit shelters plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth, and its otherworldly look inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's 1912 novel The Lost World.
