England's lost king was found under a city council parking lot

Richard III died at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, and the exact location of his grave was lost for over 500 years. In 2012, archaeologists excavating a Leicester car park, on the site of a former friary, uncovered a skeleton with battle wounds and spinal curvature matching historical descriptions of the king. DNA comparison with living descendants confirmed the identification, and Richard III was reburied in Leicester Cathedral in 2015.
