This plant can dry to a crisp for years, then unfurl green again in hours
Selaginella lepidophylla, the resurrection plant of Mexico's Chihuahuan Desert, survives losing nearly all its water by curling into a tight brown ball and shutting its metabolism down almost completely. Rehydrated even after years of drought, its fronds uncurl and turn green again within hours, its cells protected from collapse by built-up sugars and antioxidants.
