Planarian flatworms can regenerate a complete new body, head, brain and all, from a tiny fragment of their original tissue. Biologist Thomas Hunt Morgan documented in 1898 that even a piece as small as 1/279th of the original worm could grow into a whole new animal. Their bodies stay packed with adult stem cells able to become any cell type needed.
