A bulbous nose lets this antelope breathe both frozen and dusty air safely
The saiga antelope's oversized, downward-pointing nose works like built-in climate control: in winter it warms and humidifies frigid air before it reaches the lungs, and in summer, on dusty steppe, it filters out airborne particles. It's one of the more unusual respiratory adaptations of any mammal.
