The world's highest capital sits so high that planes need longer runways

La Paz, Bolivia's seat of government, sits at roughly 3,640 metres above sea level, high enough that the thin air reduces aircraft lift and engine power, forcing the airport above it to use one of the longest commercial runways on Earth. Bolivia's constitutional capital, Sucre, is a different, much lower city entirely.
