One country moved the International Date Line so it could stop being split across two days
Kiribati's islands originally straddled the date line, so its eastern and western halves were always a day apart, complicating business and government. In 1995, Kiribati redrew the line to bulge nearly 3,000 km eastward around its territory, making itself the first place on Earth to greet each new year.
