The Kalahari isn't technically a desert at all

Despite its name, most of the Kalahari receives too much rain to meet the technical definition of a desert — its sandy terrain supports grasses, thorn scrub and wildlife across much of its 900,000 square kilometres. Geographers classify large parts of it as semi-arid savanna rather than true desert.
