The world's largest landlocked country is nearly the size of Western Europe

Kazakhstan covers about 2.72 million square kilometres without touching any ocean, making it by far the largest landlocked country on Earth, more than five times the size of the next largest, Mongolia. Its territory spans two continents, from the Caspian Sea to the border of China.
