China spans five geographic time zones but runs on just one
The whole country uses Beijing Time (UTC+8), even in the far west where the sun can rise after 10am. Officials in Xinjiang unofficially keep a second, unofficial local time two hours behind to cope. It's the flip side of Russia running eleven zones: China chose one for national unity instead.
