This fish 'sees' in pitch-black water using its own electric field

The African elephantnose fish generates a weak electric field around its body and reads distortions in that field through skin receptors, letting it detect the size, shape and even material of nearby objects in murky water where eyesight is useless. Its brain devotes an outsized share of tissue to processing this electric sense.
