Earth's biggest migration happens every night, mostly out of sight
Every evening, an estimated 10 billion tons of ocean animals — mostly zooplankton, small fish and squid — rise hundreds of metres toward the surface to feed under cover of darkness, then sink back down before sunrise. By sheer biomass it dwarfs every migration of birds or land animals combined, and it repeats daily across the whole ocean.
