Conformity splits into two completely different reasons for going along

Morton Deutsch and Harold Gerard reran Asch's line experiment with a twist: sometimes subjects answered privately and anonymously. People still conformed even when no one could judge them, proving one kind of conformity is about believing the group is right (informational influence), separate from just wanting to be liked (normative influence).
