In Turkish, your grammar forces you to say if you actually saw it happen

Turkish verb endings encode evidentiality: whether you witnessed something directly or only heard about it secondhand. Saying 'geldi' claims you saw someone arrive; saying 'gelmiş' means you're reporting it from a rumor, evidence, or hearsay, with no equivalent distinction required in English. Dozens of languages worldwide, including Quechua and many others, grammatically require speakers to mark their source of information this way.
