An economist quit the peace talks and predicted the treaty would wreck Europe

The 1919 Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to accept sole responsibility for WWI, pay enormous reparations, and surrender territory and its overseas colonies. British economist John Maynard Keynes resigned from the delegation in protest and published a book warning the terms would devastate Europe's economy, a prediction widely seen as prophetic once hyperinflation and the Great Depression paved the way for the Nazis.
