A single radio station coached ordinary Rwandans, day by day, on who to kill next
In 1994, the station RTLM broadcast the names, addresses and hiding places of targets over the air, calling Tutsi 'cockroaches' and telling listeners not to spare women or children. Roughly 500,000 to 800,000 people were killed in about 100 days, one of the fastest mass killings in recorded history. An international tribunal later convicted RTLM's founders of genocide for the broadcasts themselves.
