The word with the most meanings in English isn't 'set' — it's 'run'
When Oxford English Dictionary lexicographers finished revising the letter R, editor Peter Gilliver counted 645 distinct senses for the verb 'run' alone — more than any other English word, and enough to make it the dictionary's longest entry. It knocked 'put' and the longtime record-holder 'set' off the top spot.
