An attacked plant can send out a chemical distress call that only predators can hear

When caterpillars chew on corn or lima bean leaves, the plant releases a specific blend of volatile compounds that attracts parasitic wasps, which then hunt down and lay eggs inside the caterpillars attacking it. The plant doesn't just passively suffer the damage, it actively recruits its attacker's enemies.
