One Indian village gets more rain in a year than most countries see in a decade
Mawsynram, in India's Meghalaya hills, holds the Guinness World Record for highest average annual rainfall — around 11,872mm, roughly 467 inches. Nearby Cherrapunji, the more famous rival, still holds records for the most rain in a single year and month. Both sit where the Khasi Hills funnel moisture-laden monsoon winds off the Bay of Bengal into a narrowing valley, forcing the air sharply upward and wringing out extreme rainfall.
