One Kentucky cave system stretches over 400 miles — more than twice its nearest rival

Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is the longest known cave system on Earth, with more than 676 kilometres (420 miles) of surveyed passageways and counting. That's more than double the length of the next-longest system, and explorers are still connecting new passages decades into mapping it.
