Kim Peek could reportedly scan a left-hand and right-hand page simultaneously, one eye tracking each, and recall the contents of thousands of books years later. He had savant syndrome without autism, and was the direct inspiration for Dustin Hoffman's character in Rain Man. Researchers who examined him found unusual brain wiring, including a missing corpus callosum.
