Astronomers confirmed the Kuiper Belt by finding a tiny world past Pluto in 1992

In 1992, astronomers David Jewitt and Jane Luu discovered 1992 QB1, the first object found orbiting the Sun beyond Neptune besides Pluto and its moon. The find confirmed the long-theorized Kuiper Belt actually exists — a vast ring of icy bodies at the solar system's edge, now known to include thousands of objects and dwarf planets like Eris.
