Hypatia taught philosophy in Alexandria, until a mob killed her for it
Hypatia led the Neoplatonist school in Alexandria, teaching mathematics and philosophy to students of every religion. In 415 CE a Christian mob dragged her from her chariot and killed her amid a political feud with the city's bishop -- a death often marked as the symbolic end of classical philosophy in Alexandria.
