A wrong turn put the man whose murder started WWI directly in front of his killer

On 28 June 1914, after surviving a bomb attempt earlier that morning, Archduke Franz Ferdinand's driver took a wrong turn into a Sarajevo side street — and stopped the car right in front of Gavrilo Princip, one of the conspirators who had given up and wandered off. Princip shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie at point-blank range. The assassination triggered a chain of alliances that pulled Europe into the First World War within weeks.
