An Australian language has a word for 'dog' that means dog — pure coincidence
The English word 'dog' and the Mbabaram word 'dog' (also meaning dog) sound identical and share a meaning, yet the two languages have no historical connection whatsoever — the resemblance is pure chance. Linguists call these false cognates: unlike 'false friends,' which merely mean something different than they appear to, false cognates aren't even related by descent, just coincidentally similar.
