One of the OED's most prolific contributors wrote his entries from an asylum cell
When James Murray asked the public to mail in quotations showing how English words were actually used, one of his most reliable contributors, Dr. William Chester Minor, sent in tens of thousands of citations over two decades. All of them were written from his cell at Broadmoor, where he'd been confined for killing a man during a paranoid delusion. Murray didn't learn the truth about his star volunteer for years.
