This tiny spider builds a giant fake version of itself out of silk and leftover prey

Spiders in the genus Cyclosa, found in the Philippines and Peru, weave decoys shaped like oversized spiders into their webs, assembled from silk, plant debris, and the remains of past meals, sometimes several times their own body length. When a predator approaches, the real spider hides inside or near the decoy and shakes it to make it appear alive. Researchers who described the behavior in 2025 think the decoys may confuse or deter predators, though that hasn't yet been tested directly.
