Cuttlefish talk in a light pattern most predators literally cannot see
Cuttlefish skin reflects patterns of polarized light invisible to many of their predators, such as seals, whose eyes can't detect it. Researchers found the patterns appear on the arms, head and around the eyes, and shift during aggression, courtship and other encounters. It functions as a private channel of communication layered underneath ordinary camouflage.
