Soviets blocked every road into West Berlin, so the Allies fed the city by air
In June 1948, the Soviet Union cut off all road, rail and canal access to West Berlin, trying to force the Allies out. Instead, American and British aircraft flew in food, coal and supplies around the clock, landing a plane roughly every three minutes at the operation's peak, until the Soviets lifted the blockade in May 1949.
