This goose crosses the Himalayas in a single overnight climb

Bar-headed geese migrate between Tibetan breeding lakes and Indian wintering grounds by flying straight through Himalayan passes, reaching tracked altitudes above 7,000 metres. Denser muscle capillaries, oxygen-hungry haemoglobin and oversized lungs let them do in hours what would kill an unacclimatised climber attempting the same air.
