Five houses, fifteen clues, one very particular fish owner
Five houses in a row are each painted a different colour, and owned by a person of a different nationality who drinks a different beverage, smokes a different brand, and keeps a different pet. Given fifteen clues linking colours, nationalities, drinks, smokes and pets, who owns the fish?
Reveal the answer
The German owns the fish, found by working through the clues on an elimination grid. The puzzle was published anonymously in the magazine Life International in December 1962; its popular nickname 'Einstein's Riddle' is a much later addition, with no evidence Einstein ever wrote or endorsed it.
