History
A pharaoh's tomb sat hidden and untouched for over 3,000 years until 1922
Funded by Lord Carnarvon, archaeologist Howard Carter uncovered steps leading to Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in November 1922. Unlike almost every other pharaoh's tomb, it hadn't been thoroughly looted in antiquity, yielding over 5,000 largely intact artefacts, including the pharaoh's iconic gold funerary mask.
