Taa, spoken by around 2,500 people in the Kalahari, has the largest confirmed sound inventory of any language on Earth: roughly 85 to 100+ phonemes, including over 40 distinct click sounds across five places of articulation. By one count, 82% of its basic vocabulary starts with a click — a functional load on clicks found nowhere else.
