The most common word order on Earth puts the verb last, not English's order

English favours subject-verb-object, as in 'she ate rice', but that's not the world's default. Linguist Joseph Greenberg's landmark 1963 survey found subject-object-verb languages - among them Japanese, Korean, Turkish and Latin - form the single largest word-order group, with SOV and SVO together covering the vast majority of the world's languages.
