The loneliest point in the ocean is closer to astronauts than to any person

Point Nemo, calculated in 1992 by engineer Hrvoje Lukatela, is the spot in the South Pacific farthest from any land — roughly 2,700 km from the nearest coast in every direction. When the International Space Station passes overhead at about 400 km up, its crew are often the nearest humans to that patch of ocean.
