A respected physicist 'discovered' a ray that only he could see
In 1903, physicist René Blondlot announced N-rays, a new form of radiation he detected using faintly glowing screens. Dozens of French scientists reported replicating his results. American physicist Robert Wood visited Blondlot's lab and secretly removed a key prism mid-experiment — Blondlot kept 'detecting' the ray anyway, proving it had never existed.
