A mutinous crew vanished to a tiny island and stayed hidden from the world for 18 years
In 1789, Fletcher Christian led a mutiny against Captain William Bligh aboard the HMS Bounty, setting Bligh and 18 loyal crew adrift in an open boat, who then sailed over 3,600 nautical miles to safety. Christian and the mutineers sailed to the remote, misplotted Pitcairn Island, burned their ship to avoid detection, and vanished from the outside world. They weren't discovered until an American ship stumbled on their descendants nearly two decades later.
