One of the world's most sacred mountains has never been officially climbed
Mount Kailash in Tibet is considered sacred by four religions — Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon — whose followers circle its base on foot as an act of pilgrimage rather than attempt its summit. Out of respect for its religious significance, China has restricted mountaineering permits for Kailash, and no confirmed ascent of its peak has ever been recorded.
