Mill said it's better to be a dissatisfied human than a satisfied pig

Bentham had reduced morality to counting units of pleasure, treating all pleasures as equal. Mill pushed back: intellectual and moral pleasures are qualitatively higher than bodily ones, so a competent judge who has tasted both will always prefer the higher kind, even at a cost to comfort.
